Cage's dilapidated apartment on the East River became
quite the bohemian zen-space, attracting composers (Feldman, Wolff, and Earle
Brown). Cage hung out with the circle of downtown painters and was surely
influenced by their scattering paint, exploiting stark patterns of geometric
lines, and making canvasses entirely one color: Pollock, de Kooning, Kline,
Newman, Rothko, and Rauschenberg. Each of these artists' work also speak to me,
and I will give a few of my favorite works:
Pollock: Untitled - Green Silver, 1949

Pollock: Number 8, 1949
